{"id":940,"date":"2023-10-01T13:07:27","date_gmt":"2023-10-01T13:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cicakraus.com\/?p=940"},"modified":"2023-10-02T07:16:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T07:16:01","slug":"venezuelan-soprano-genesis-moreno-first-place-winner-scores-a-hat-trick-at-ix-concurso-internacional-de-canto-alfredo-kraus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cicakraus.com\/en\/venezuelan-soprano-genesis-moreno-first-place-winner-scores-a-hat-trick-at-ix-concurso-internacional-de-canto-alfredo-kraus\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuelan soprano G\u00e9nesis Moreno, first place winner, scores a hat trick at IX Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The Latin American singer also took the audience prize and the prize for the best <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">zarzuela<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> singer<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Mexican tenor<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Carlos Alberto Vel\u00e1zquez <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">took <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">second prize and the prize for the best opera singer<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Spanish soprano<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Aitana Sanz won<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s6\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">third prize<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Fundaci\u00f3n Internacional Alfredo Kraus (FIAK), organiser of the IX Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus (IX CICAK), and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria pronounced Venezuelan soprano <strong>G\u00e9nesis Moreno<\/strong> winner of the <strong>first prize<\/strong> of the singing competition after the deliberation of the jury chaired by Italian tenor and conductor Giuseppe Sabbatini, which came to its decision at a public gala performance held on Saturday 30 September at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00e9nesis Moreno scored a hat trick at the competition, also taking the audience prize and the prize for the best zarzuela singer, awarded by Legado Maestro Sergio Alonso CB.<\/p>\n<p>The other place winners at the IX CICAK were Mexican tenor <strong>Carlos Alberto Vel\u00e1zquez<\/strong>, who took <strong>second prize<\/strong> and the prize for the best opera singer, awarded by Fundaci\u00f3n de Arte and Pensamiento Mart\u00edn Chirino, and Spanish soprano <strong>Aitana Sanz<\/strong>, who took <strong>third prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nine singers took part in the final of the IX CICAK, after they had been selected from the 65 contestants assessed at the semi-final round at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, held from Sunday 24 to Tuesday 26 September. The semi-finalists had previously taken part in preliminary rounds in Madrid, Milan, Genoa and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or had directly entred the semi-final after finishing as finalists or winners of other international singing competitions, under the rules of the IX CICAK.<\/p>\n<p>For the ninth CICAK, the organisers received 110 applications from 32 countries by the applications closing date, on June 26.<\/p>\n<p>The nine finalists who had the opportunity to perform at the final gala with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by \u00d3liver D\u00edaz, were <strong>Carlos Alberto Vel\u00e1zquez <\/strong>(tenor\/Mexico), <strong>G\u00e9nesis Moreno<\/strong> (soprano\/Mexico), <strong>Fan Zhou<\/strong> (soprano\/China), <strong>Aitana Sanz<\/strong> (soprano\/Spain), <strong>Tamon Inoue<\/strong> (baritone\/Spain), <strong>Alejandro L\u00f3pez<\/strong> (bass\/Spain), <strong>Andrea Ni\u00f1o<\/strong> (mezzo\/Colombia), <strong>In\u00e9s L\u00f3pez<\/strong> (mezzo\/Spain), and <strong>Carmen Buend\u00eda<\/strong> (soprano\/Spain).<\/p>\n<p>The jury, chaired by <strong>Giuseppe Sabbatini<\/strong>, was made up of representatives from the collaborating theatres: <strong>Alessandro<\/strong><strong> Galoppini <\/strong>(Casting Manager, Teatro alla Scala, Milan), <strong>Pierangelo Conte<\/strong> (Artistic Director, Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa), <strong>Eline De Kat<\/strong> (Artistic Coordinator, Op\u00e9ra de Montecarlo), <strong>Cesidio Ni\u00f1o<\/strong> (Artistic Director, ABAO de Bilbao), <strong>Ulises Ja\u00e9n<\/strong> (General and Artistic Manager, \u00d3pera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria\/ACO), and honorary member <strong>Jer\u00f3nimo Saavedra Acevedo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The participants at the prize giving were <strong>Antonio <\/strong><strong>Morales M\u00e9ndez<\/strong>, President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria; <strong>Rosa Kraus Ley<\/strong>, Chair of the Fundaci\u00f3n Internacional Alfredo Kraus; <strong>Giuseppe Sabbatini<\/strong>, Chair of the jury, accompanied by the jury members; <strong>Marta Chirino<\/strong>, Chair of the Fundaci\u00f3n Mart\u00edn Chirino; and <strong>Francisco Valencia Alonso<\/strong>, grandson of composer Francisco Alonso L\u00f3pez (Granada, Spain) and Chair of Legado Maestro Alonso CB, collaborators for the ninth singing competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prizes and invitations to perform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>three official prizes awarded by the IX CICAK <\/strong>were for <strong>14,000<\/strong>,<strong> 12,000 and 10,000 euros<\/strong>, plus a diploma and a <strong>medal <\/strong>designed by <strong>Gara Mart\u00edn Kraus<\/strong>, granddaughter of Alfredo Kraus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong><strong>hree special prizes<\/strong> were also awarded: the audience prize, for the singer who received the most votes at the final (\u20ac 2,500 and a diploma), provided by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria;
