Preliminary rounds in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Twenty young singers from China, Cuba, Finland, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan and Ukraine auditioned, accompanied by Juan Francisco Parra, official pianist of the VII CICAK.
The tribunal members were Rosa Kraus Ley, Chair of Fundación Alfredo Kraus (FIAK) and the VII CICAK; Tilman Kuttenkeuler, Managing Director of the Fundación Auditorio Theatre; and Mario Pontiggia, Artistic Director of the FIAK and the VII CICAK. After listening to the participants, the tribunal considered nine of them eligible to enter the semi-final: Patricia Calvache Rodríguez (soprano), Fernando García-Campero (baritone), Héctor Rodríguez Vera (tenor), Iida Maria Antola (soprano), Victoria Songwei Li (soprano), Ricardo Llamas Márquez (bass-baritone), David Batista Falcón (countertenor), Xu Chen (tenor) and Gabriel Rodríguez Álvarez (tenor).
The preliminary rounds in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria continued on from the earlier rounds in Florence (15 and 16 June), Madrid (17 and 18 June) and Naples (5 and 6 July), where 29 singers were chosen to take part in the semi-final in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. They will be joined by the candidates selected at the preliminary rounds held during the last two days and the 27 finalists eligible for direct access after finishing as place winners in other international contests. More than 65 singers will take part in the semi-final, performing for the official jury on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 September.
The seventh Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus (VII CICAK) is taking place at a special time, coinciding with events commemorating the 20th anniversary of the death of Gran Canaria’s famous tenor.
