Fundación Internacional Alfredo Kraus (FIAK) and the organisers of the singing competition Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus (CICAK) are very sorry to farewell Guillermo García-Alcalde.

A notable figure in his adoptive Gran Canaria, journalist and editor at La Provincia newspaper, his broad cultural knowledge extended to composing, music and music criticism, philosophy and aesthetics, the plastic arts, essay writing and conferences. Many academic circles and institutions included him as a member, and several cultural projects owe their continuance to the strength of his commitment.

Since 1990, Guillermo García-Alcalde has been associated with the CICAK, from the first three competitions championed by Alfredo Kraus to the return of the event in 2017, as an honorary member of the jury at subsequent competitions.

With profound sorrow for the void left by such a prominent figure, the FIAK and the CICAK offer their sincere condolences to his friends, family and colleagues. May he rest in peace.
