Eleven singers pass the semi-final round in Gran Canaria and enter the final of the VI Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus

• The prize winners of the VI CICAK will be announced by the jury, chaired by tenor Jaime Aragall, at a gala show tomorrow, Friday 29 September, at 20.00 hours in the Symphonic Hall of Auditorio Alfredo Kraus.
• Contestants will perform opera and zarzuela pieces accompanied by the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Miguel Pérez-Sierra.

Fundación Internacional Alfredo Kraus and Gran Canaria Cabildo (Island Council), organisers of the VI Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus, have announced that after the semi-final round held in Gran Canaria on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 September, in which 47 of the expected 60 contestants from 22 countries took part, the official jury has decided that 11 singers will go on to the final.

The contestants performed 47 opera arias and 20 zarzuela romances, accompanied on the piano by maestros Cristiano Manzoni and Juan Francisco Parra. After the auditions, the jury cast its vote and considered 11 of the contestants, in the following order, eligible to enter the final round: Carles Pachón Díaz (Baritone / Spain), Galeano Salas (Tenor / Mexico – USA), Leonor Bonilla Caballos (Soprano / Spain), Natalia Labourdette Alba (Soprano / Spain), Caterina Piva (Mezzo-soprano / Italy), Dongho Kim (Bass-baritone / Republic of Korea), Jasper Ruben Leever (Bass-baritone / The Netherlands), Anna Gomà Curtiella (Mezzo-soprano / Spain), Nina-Maria Fischer (Soprano / Germany-Poland), Marlena Devoe (Soprano / New Zealand) and Blanca Valido Montenegro (Soprano / Spain, Canary Islands).

The jury comprised the chair, tenor Jaime Aragall, and members Joan Matabosch, artistic director of Madrid’s Royal Theatre; Daniel Bianco, artistic director of the National Zarzuela Theatre (Madrid); Ernesto Palacio, artistic director of the Rossini Opera Festival (Pesaro); Pierangelo Conte, artistic coordinator of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino / Opera of Florence; César Wonenburger, artistic director of Friends of the Opera of A Coruña; and Ulises Jaén, artistic director of Canary Islands Friends of the Opera. Also contributing but without casting votes were Rosa Kraus Ley, chair of the FIAK and VI CICAK; Mario Pontiggia, artistic director of the FIAK and secretary of the VI CICAK; and honorary members Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo and Guillermo García-Alcalde.

After the semi-final, the same jury will be responsible for choosing the three prize winners of the VI CICAK in the final gala show tomorrow, Friday 29 September, at 20.00 hours in the Symphonic Hall of Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, before a public audience. The competition finalists will be accompanied at this event by the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Miguel Pérez-Sierra.

Tickets for the final are on sale at www.auditorioteatrolaspalmasgc.es and www.auditorio-alfredokraus.com, and at ticket offices at the Auditorium and Teatro Pérez Galdós. The Final will be recorded and transmitted in a delayed broadcast by Radio Televisión Canaria.
